Before installing a major appliance like a spa or hot tub, determine if your current electric service will handle the extra load. It's usually not a problem since most homes built in the last 35 years have at least a 150-200 amp service.
Power requirements vary from unit to unit. Smaller ones simply plug into a 15-amp, 120-volt ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlet. Larger units may require a 50-amp, 240-volt feed.
Most spas and hot tubs must have power fed through a service disconnect switch and allows you to turn the power on or off from a small side panel. This must be within the line of sight and atleast 5’ from the water.
